Lost in painting
Meher lives in the gravity and wildness of the unknown…the blank canvas, the empty stage. From here she crafts visual poems.
Her education in vibrant NYC, at Barnard College of Columbia University, deepened her love for language and story. Yet her art also grapples with the unspoken spaces between words and worlds, propelling her to meet each canvas with creative curiosity and adventurous force of her primal soul.
Aks’ work is in conversation with folkloric magicians she admires, like Firelei Baez and mystical surrealists like Remedios Varo. She’s also inspired by the abstract expressionism of Lee Krasner, the tender, intuitive animal studies of Franz Marc and the sweeping tableaus of Baroque artists like Caravaggio and Artemisa Gentileschi. She is often moved by works of anonymous painters, calligraphers and artisans of ancient history, and animated films.
Her collection contains textured, mixed media paintings, timeless themes with a contemporary edge, that invite the viewer into her workshop-sanctuary of the soul.
